The 2007 – 08 second annual report for DelPHE highlights just some of the programme’s many achievements over the last 12 months. The DelPHE portfolio has continued to grow over the last year and there are now 122 DelPHE projects that work in DFID’s focus countries across Africa and Asia. In total 66 per cent of projects are led from African HE institutions and 34 per cent are led from Asian institutions.
Partnerships involve a variety of models; with 33 one to one partnerships, 47 multi-lateral, 39 multi-institutional, and three multi-disciplinary projects. There are 245 different HEIs around the world currently participating as partners in DelPHE. The majority of projects involve a UK partner institution though there is a good level of participation in DelPHE from HE institutions outside the UK including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Denmark and Italy.
Partnerships continue to work with a wide variety of stakeholders at institutional, community and policy level. Projects cover a wide range of topics including agriculture, the environment, governance and human rights, science, information communication technology. Almost 30 per cent of DelPHE projects, the largest proportion, are related to the health sector.
The programme achievements, case studies and statistics documented in the report clearly highlight the significant benefits of participating in the programme. This is demonstrated in an interview featured with a DelPHE co-ordinator working on a very successful health project in Zambia. Read the 2007 - 08 DelPHE annual report in full (PDF).
