In 2002-2006 we implemented the project in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Education of Lithuania. The aim was to ensure that teachers involved with the challenging age group (under 12) have the requisite skills and knowledge to allow the children to develop their language skills fully and optimally.
In the first stage of the project we offered the course consisting of two input sessions of six days each, with a gap of approximately six months between the two sessions, during which trainees had to undertake action research tasks. The course was taken by three groups of thirty teachers from all over Lithuania.
In the second stage of the project we invited sixteen participants from different towns to attend a series of Trainer Training seminars. As a result, the group are ready to run their own workshops for local teachers teaching young learners and implement in-service teacher development programmes at local Teacher Development Centres.
The project lecturers and consultants were Nida Burneikaite (Lithuania), Maureen Ellis (United Kingdom), Jeremy Taylor (United Kingdom),.Malgorzata Tetiurka (Poland), and Gula Wacowska (Poland).
