Exhibition
ZeroCarbonCity campaign

For part of our the ZeroCarbonCity project, we have collaborated with The Climate Group to produce a global touring exhibition titled NorthSouthEastWest.

Ten of the world's top photographers from Magnum Photographic Agency were commissioned to capture images from ten diverse countries around the world to illustrate not only the impacts of climate change, but also the solutions which are being implemented to reduce carbon emissions in communities north, south, east and west.

The results have been striking. Real examples of our changing climate and the effects can be clearly viewed in many countries with images of extreme weather events; trends in arctic ice cap thickness; observed glacier retreats; poor urban air quality; environmental refugees; lack of available water; and impacts on biodiversity.

At the same time, innovative examples of how people have adapted their lifestyles and responded in resourceful ways provides inspiration with images illustrating energy efficiency; renewable energy; fuel cell technology; combined heat and power plants; effective public transport systems; carbon capture and storage; carbon offsetting; and emissions trading.

The exhibition which opened in London, March 2005, will be displayed in a variety of formats around the world at both internal and external venues. The British Council will be hosting the exhibition in over 60 countries as part of our ZeroCarbonCity campaign.

Now you can watch an online digital version of the exhibition!
