British Council is committed to supporting English language teachers and has launched a new modern website that contains many features and offers lots of opportunities for teachers to interact using blogs, wikis, comments, content rating and polls.

This new website is dedicated to English language teachers and is organised in four main areas:

Try offers free teaching materials for the classroom

Think offers free articles and discussions about teaching methodology - including contributions from leading UK experts and ELT glossary

Talk includes forums where teachers can meet other teachers around the world to discuss ideas, get advice and keep blogs.  This section can facilitate closed groups so that Teachers Associations can have their own private space

Transform provides teachers with resources and information for their professional development and quaifications, including sections on specialist areas such as CLIL and teaching young learners.

BRITISH COUNCIL ONLINE TEACHER TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT COURSES
The New Face of Teacher Training and Development in Cyprus

The British Council is offering a range of global courses for teachers of English.  In Cyprus, you can learn online with the British Council.

All our teacher training courses have been specially designed with EFL teachers in Cyprus in mind. All our global teacher training courses are delivered in our training centres across the world.

If you are an English language teacher in Cyprus, you can choose to take part in Learning Technologies for the Classroom or TKT Essentials.

Learning Technologies for the Classroom

The course will expose teachers to a range of practical techniques for exploiting learning technologies in the EFL classroom through MOODLE, a Virtual Learning Environment, with the aim to encourage teachers to reflect on pedagogy behind the use of learning technologies and raise awareness and enhance motivation as an English language teacher to use leanring technologies in the classroom.

The programme is relevant to all teachers and it is especially intended for you if you are:

•An inexperienced teacher or a teacher in pre-service training who wishes to receive an introduction to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for the language classroom;

•An experienced teacher and are being introduced to learning technologies for the first time

Ideally you should have some experience of using computers even though it might be limited in the classroom context and a minimum language level of B1 (equivalent to PET or 5.5 IELTS) in the Common European Framework for Languages

TKT Essentials

The course structure and content of the course is based on the syllabus of the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT).

The online course comprises three modules divided into a total of 33 units varying in length between 90 and 180 minutes

•Module 1 - Language and background to language learning and teaching (18 units)

•Module 2 - Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching (8 units)

•Module 3 - Managing the teaching and learning process (7 units)

Each unit of the TKT Essential online course consists of a set of moderated, interactive online activities using Moodle (a web–based environment for delivering course content and managing students)

TKT essentials online has been created as a moderated course. This means that the course has been written as a lock-step course in which a designated group of participants work though the materials in a scheduled manner, interacting with each other and led by an online tutor who moderates discussions and develops learning points, etc.

If you are interested in taking either TKT Essentials or Learning Technologies for the classroom, please complete the registration form and return to our offices by email or fax . The next on-line courses are scheduled to start in October 2009

If you have further question regarding any of these two on-line course, please fill in the information request form with your questions.
