Previously known as the Higher Education Quality Council (HEQC), the QAA assesses the quality of teaching by subject. The six dimensions of teaching quality are: curriculum design, content and organisation; teaching, learning and assessment; student progression and achievement; student support and guidance; learning resources; quality assurance and enhancement
There are no official ranking systems for British institutions. However, two of Britain’s quality systems that are most ikely to be of interest to international students wishing to choose between programmes or departments are the Teaching Quality Assessment (TQA) and the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Both of these systems focus on individual subjects and/or programmes of study and offer judgements on quality in the form of ratings. The assessment method used for both is peer review by specialists of high standing in their subject
