ELT Scholarships

The British Council, in association with the awarding bodies in the UK and with MINVEC in Cuba, promotes a number of scholarships for teachers of English in Cuba. These opportunities include the Hornby Trust MA Scholarship, awards from the Institute of Applied Language Studies of the University of Edinburgh, and the Frank Bell scholarship offered by Bell Schools every two years.

Hornby Trust MA Scholarship

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR HORNBY SCHOLARSHIP 2009 IS NOW OPEN

If you are an English teacher, and have 3 or more years of experience, you can apply for the Hornby Scholarship. Please see call for aplications HERE!

All applications MUST be submitted to MINVEC (not to the British Council office) to Irmina Perojo by post or personally with an authorisation from the International Relations office from the relevant Ministry your institution is registered with. Address: MINVEC, Departamento Países Desarrollados, Calle 18 y 1ra. Miramar. Playa. C. Habana.C.P. 11300. Deadline to submit applications to MINVEC is 10 April 2009.

The Bell Summer School

Every two years the Bell Schools in the UK offer one Frank Bell scholarship to a Cuban teacher to attend the Summer School - a several weeks programme for English teachers that gives teachers and trainers the opportunities to gain experiences from good quality courses concerned with the Teaching of English Language.

IALS Edinburgh

The Institute for Applied Language Studies (IALS) at Edinburgh University offers a number of scholarships for Cuban teachers of English, over a six week period in July/August. The British Council promotes these awards in association with MINVEC in Cuba, and pays for the travel expenses of the successful candidates.

IALS scholarships have been granted this year to Osmany Gordillo, English teacher and head of Department of the Pedagogical University of Ciego de Avila, and Ana Victoria Rodriguez, English teacher at Holguin University, who will visit Edinburgh in July and August. Congratulations!
