  Night of EU Cultural Institutes
|

The newly-founded Croatian branch of the EU National Institutes of Culture, EUNIC Hrvatska, offers its first ever cultural event in partnership with the EU and within the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008.
Artists from Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and the UK will undertake short residences in Zagreb and then for one night only you can see the cultural fruits of the residences by touring each country’s cultural offering.
The UK will be represented by Ray Lee who will have two performances of his visually compelling sound art project Siren at Močvara, Trnjanski nasip bb (Tvornica Jedinstvo) at 1800-1840 and 1900-1940. Check our website for full details of the programme and join us on Saturday evening, 19 April to become part of this unique intercultural experience!

In December 2003 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the years 2005 to 2015 as the International Decade for Action 'Water for Life'. To dedicate a whole decade to the water initiative shows the importance of water for life. This year’s Festival of Science, organised for the 6th time in Osijek, Rijeka, Split, Zadar and Zagreb, joins in this initiative and dedicates its rich programme of activities to the topic of water – full details are available at the Festival’s official website www.festivalznanosti.hr
If you are an elementary school teacher, bring your pupils to the Wacky Water Show performed by Techiquest, Science Education Centre from Cardiff (translation provided). Researcher Exchange Programme (RXP): the British Council is announcing a call for proposals in 2008 under its Researcher Exchange Programme (RXP) to assist researchers in making international connections. The scheme supports new links between postdoctoral researchers in the UK and in other countries by supporting individual researchers to develop new scientific collaborations and contacts through exchange visits of between two weeks and three months. International Networking for Young Scientists awards: INYS is to hold a number of short networking conferences for postdoctoral researchers in specific research areas with the aim of supporting the creation of subsequent long-term links and collaboration. Visiting Fellowships at London School of Economics: London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), with funding from the Open Society Institute (OSI), is offering four individual grants for 2-month study visits at LSE for academic staff employed by universities and higher educational institutions specialising in social sciences. Awards are intended to enable prospective candidates to upgrade their teaching and research skills. Successful candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in research and an interest in developing high impact policy outputs. The deadline for the applications is 15 April 2008.   Workshops for teachers preparing students for ICFE and ILEC

In the last e-zine we announced two new specialised exams: ICFE – International Certificate in Financial English http://www.britishcouncil.org/croatia-exams-financial-english.htm
and ILEC – International Legal English Certificate http://www.britishcouncil.org/croatia-learning-exams-ilec-2.htm
On Friday, 11 April (1000 – 1400) and Saturday, 12 April (1000 – 1400) we will organise workshops for ICFE (11 April) and ILEC (12 April) which will help teachers prepare students for these exams. Workshops are run by Eamonn Shanahan, a DELTA qualified teacher and former lawyer with expertise in legal and business English, and will be practical and proactive.
