Question # 1
What do I need to do to apply for a Chevening scholarship?
You need to submit an online application form available here on www.britishcouncil.org/croatia and send two references (preferably one academic and one professional, in English) to the British Council by the closing date of 6 November 2009.

Do I need to apply for a place at a university before submitting Chevening application?
Yes, we would advise you to apply as early as possible as some universities have early deadlines.

How do I choose a university?
A good starting point may be http://www.educationuk.org which contains a searchable database of courses. You may also look at http://www.prospects.ac.uk/PostgradUK or http://www.postgrad.hobsons.com.

What can I study?
Scholarships are available in the following areas: Politics, International Relations and EU studies; Journalism; Law; Economics; Human Rights; Environment; Business; Public Administration and Management.

Question # 5
Am I eligible?
These courses are in general intended for people who have already graduated from university. They are aimed at young graduates and professionals – exceptional individuals who have the potential to become leaders in their fields.

Question # 6
Do I need to take IELTS before submitting my application?
No, you don’t need to take any exams beforehand or send us any exam certificates – selected candidates will sit for an IELTS exam after the selection process and the cost of the exam will be covered by us.

Question # 7
I took IELTS/TOEFL recently – do I still need to sit for IELTS?
No, as long as your IELTS/TOEFL certificate is still valid (not older than two years) and your score meets the language requirement of your desired university – please check this at each university’s web site.

Question # 8
When do I know if I am short listed?
If you are short-listed, you will be invited for an interview in Zagreb in January 2010. Following the interviews, selected candidates will be recommended for a scholarship, the final confirmation of which will depend on IELTS results, a place being offered by the university and a satisfactory medical certificate.

Question # 9
What is paid for?
These scholarships are fully funded. This means that the British government will pay for your course and your flights. You will also receive a monthly stipend to cover your accommodation and living expenses.

Is there an age limit?
No.

Question # 11
Do I have to be Croatian citizen?
Yes. These scholarships are for Croatian citizens who currently live in Croatia and who intend to return to Croatia to make their careers there. However, British – Croatian dual nationals will be considered on a case by case basis.

Question # 12
When would I begin?
The scholarships are for the academic year 2010/2011.

Question # 13
How long is the course?
The courses are for three months to one year, depending on which course you choose.

Question # 14
When is the deadline?
All applications must be submitted online and reference letters sent to the British Council, Ilica 12/I, pp 55, 10001 Zagreb by 6 November 2009.
