We promote contemporary, innovative young UK artists and companies. Find out more about our priorities and objectives, our time scale and planning circle. Also, find out more about what we don't do.
Priorities and Objectives:
We are not a funding body in the usual sense (hence there is no application form). We are always keen to hear well-thought out proposals preferably generating links that will long outlast a single exhibition, performance or festival. We work in partnership with Croatian arts organisations and promoters. We are particularly keen to promote:
- artists and events new to the country
- collaborative projects between Croatian and British artists
- projects with educational elements
- representation of all UK regions and its multiculturality
- events appealing to the young audiences
- long-term projects and and/or projects with long-term outputs
- cross-sector projects (e.g. projects linking arts and science or arts and governance)
A growing proportion of our work over the next five years will be regional in nature, i.e. with other countries from the region.
Time Scale and Planning Circle
We work at least a year in advance. As a large organisation, working in 110 countries worldwide, we have to plan our programme carefully with our UK colleagues and Croatian with a minimum twelve-month lead-time.
Our financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Plans and budgets for the coming financial year are drawn up between August and October of the preceding year and are approved by the end of January. If you have a project that you think might be interesting for us, please contact us by September of the year before the project will take place. Please specify the following:
- art form (performing or visual arts, design, literature, film or new media)project aim and its target audiences
- basic information on your organisation as well as on other partners (where applicable)
- information on UK artists you would like to collaborate with
- financial plan (budget, clearly stating the BC financial input)
- venues and cities for the event
- project evaluation methods
The proposals that fit our objectives will be included in our Arts Plan and we will seek funds from our Headquarters for their realisation. We hope to be able to give you a final response by the end of January / beginning of February of the next year.
You are also invited to send us proposals for projects you plan for 2006 onwards, if they require a longer planning period.
We hope to be able to plan and develop our projects and events in partnership with you, so please get in touch with our Arts Manager, Rosana Besednik.
What We Don't Do and Who Can Help Instead
We support many art forms in a variety of ways. However, we are unable to offer assistance to certain types of arts practitioners and projects. We offer this information to save you time if you are looking for support. Where possible, we have given links to those who may be able to help you.
Amateur artists
We only support professional artists. We have supported some artists to tour abroad very early in their careers, but we do not support students or recent graduates who have not yet begun to establish themselves.
Student grants
We don't have funds to give grants to students or postgraduates studying the arts. However, there is a site which does carry some advice for overseas students wanting to study arts in the UK, please look Artform education.
Arts-related youth exchanges
Although we do not have funds for children and teenagers from the UK to travel abroad to give performances or engage in arts activity, in some cases you may qualify for our Connect Youth International scheme.
Please note that we do support UK professional artists to work with children and young people overseas.
If you are an overseas artist wanting to bring work to the UK, please contact Visiting Arts
Publishing
We don't support translations or give grants towards publishing rights. We also cannot help you to find a publisher for your book.
Contacts
The data protection law does not permit us to give out the addresses of our contacts. If you want to get in touch with an artist, check first on a search engine to see if they have their own website, or write to their publisher or agent asking them to forward a message.
