PARTICIPANTS: Young people interested in writing plays and the British approach to dealing with playwriting. Proficiency in English is required. PUBLIC PRESENTATION: The workshop ends with a public presentation of drama texts, written by its participants. PLACE: The workshop will take place at the Osijek University and the public presentation at the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek. PERFORMERS: Students of Drama Academy in Osijek.
led by , British director CONTENTS: During this workshop the British director is going to work with the participants on an orchestra reading of Connor McPherson’s The Weir. This kind of work with texts is characteristic for the British theatre because an orchestra reading (without a set, reading in front of an audience without acting) gives an excellent and inexpensive way of familiarizing oneself with a drama text. PARTICIPANTS: Young people interested in dramatic interpretation of text, acting and the British approach to working on a text Proficiency in English is required. SPECIAL GUESTS: A guest actor from the UK - Mark Mcdonnell, PUBLIC PRESENTATION: The workshop ends with a public orchestra reading. PLACE: The workshop will take place at the Osijek University and the orchestra reading is to take place in the Pub.

Sanja Nikčević: New European Drama or the Great Deception (Meandar, Zagreb, 2005) The book illustrates the rise of the contemporary British trend of explicit violence (the so-called “in-yer-face” drama or the new brutalism), about its influence on the European theatre and imposing this trend as “the new Europen drama” in the late 90-ies. The book was published in May 2005 by the Zagreb publisher Meandar in a prestigious Intermedia edition. Great interest for this book has resulted in translation of its parts in magazines (Polland, Hungary and Slovakia) as well as publishing a short version of the book in the prestigious New Theatre Quarterly , published by Cambridge University Press. Contemporary British drama today – influences and impact British drama is the most influential one in the world, which makes it present in Croatia as well. Directors and actors, professors and translators will be speaking about its influence, about the possibilities of implementing relations towards a contemporary text on ours, about the importance of a good translation, about the possibilities of mutual combining.
