Phil Collins (UK, 1970) has gained recognition for his ongoing projects which examine portraiture and the emotional core of photography and videomaking. Working closely with individuals and communities over a matter of time Collins reflects on their realities staging convocations and events and interacting with the situations that constitute his subject matter. Recent exhibitions include el mundo no escuchara - the world won’t listen, Espacio La Rebeca, Bogotá; All Moveable Wonders, IASPIS, Stockholm; Tír na nÓg: Younger Irish Artists from the IMMA Collection, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; they shoot horses, Kerlin Gallery, Dublin; Recall, Modern Art, Oxford; Now. Images of Present Time, Mois de la Photo 2003, L¹Espace Vox, Montreal; phil collins, maccarone inc., New York; Art Now Lightbox, Tate Britain, London; phil collins: real society, Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast; Witness, Barbican Centre, London; sinisa and sanja, The Wrong Gallery, New York; Undesire, Apexart, New York; Reality Check, The British Council & Photographer’s Gallery touring exhibition; Frontline Compilation, DAE, San Sebastian; Uniform: Order and Disorder, PS1, New York; Tirana Biennial 1, Tirana; and Manifesta 3, Modern Gallery, Ljubljana. In 2005 an extensive exhibition of Collins’ work will open at Milton Keynes Gallery, and then tour both nationally and internationally. |
