What is Action 4: Youth Support Systems ?
It is the sector of the Youth in Action programme that provides the tools to help all those working in the youth field to develop projects related to the Youth in Action programme objectives or Actions such as: European Youth Exchanges, European Voluntary Service, and Youth Initiatives .

Who is involved?
Organisations and groups from the statutory and voluntary youth sectors.

Youth workers; support persons (e.g. youth advisers, assessors, EVS supervisors, mentors, etc.); trainers; information workers, youth officers, managers and policy makers; and all those involved in informal education.

Participants can be from any of the countries participating in the programme. However there are some specific criteria for projects with third countries. Please contact us for more information about these criteria.

What are the benefits?
Organisers are given assistance in finding partners, developing youth work skills, preparing for projects, initiating policies, building transnational partnerships, and developing co-operation with third countries.

What kinds of projects are supported?

			Building co-operation and project partnerships Activities for partner-finding; investigating new project ideas; setting up networks; exchanging experience and practice on aspects of youth work; sharing approaches to policy issues.
			Training to develop high quality youth activities Activities to help youth workers and support persons acquire skills, knowledge and competencies to develop Youth in Action programme projects, e.g. project management, intercultural learning and communication skills, mentoring or supervisory skills, capacity to work with disadvantaged youth people, etc
			Youth information initiatives Activities to find project partners; develop cooperation on the provision and dissemination of youth information; exchange experience; develop networks or provide training on information or media techniques.

What kind of activities might be organised?
The following activities may be eligible for funding:

Job Shadowing	For youth workers, policy makers etc... to exchange good practice and build youth work skills and capacity	1-3 weeks	Usually between 2 countries
Feasibility Visits	For partners already in contact to develop their project ideas and prepare the application	between 2 and 4 days	Usually 1 to 2 representative per partner
Contact Making Seminars	Provide an opportunity for organisations to find partners to set up new YOUTH projects	2 to 4 days excluding travel	Between 20 and 50 participants
Study Visits	Visits based around a youth work theme, to establish contacts and set up projects	between 3 and 6 days excluding travel	At least 4 countries including host country
Seminars	Exchange of good practice within an international group. Participants undergo a learning process and have a platform for discussion on themes linked to the objectives of the YOUTH Programme	2 to 5 days excluding travel	At least 4 countries including host country
Training Courses	To develop the skills and capacities of project organisers in practical aspects of international youth work	5 to 10 days excluding travel	At least 4 countries. 12 to 25 participants
Youth Information	Production and targeted dissemination of information and training material (printed or electronic form)	Up to 1 year	At least 4 countries
Transnational Partnerships and Networks	Setting up structures to establish permanent working relations; extended exchange of good practice, long-term transnational activity	Up to 1 year	At least 6 countries
Support for Quality and Innovation	Local, regional and national activities aimed at improving the quality or creating new projects under Actions 1, 2 and 3 of the YOUTH Programme. Focusing on inclusion of young people with less opportunities	Up to 1 year	May be organised without partners in other countries
