If you work in a school, college, a local authority or a teacher training institution you are likely to be eligible to take up opportunities offered through Comenius.
If you teach at any level in a school or a Further Education college, you can take part in a Comenius in-service training activity on your particular subject area.
Any school or college can get involved in a Comenius school partnership. These partnerships also allow for pupil-involvement and is a great way to get the whole school/college involved in a European link. You can also arrange for your school to host a Comenius assistant for between three and ten months of the academic year.
If you work closely with schools in an advisory capacity, you should find information on Comenius useful, particularly if you are advising schools on how to introduce or enhance the European Dimension, or on how to address the school improvement agenda through European links. Local Authority staff are eligible to take part in Comenius in-service training activities.
If you have had previous experience of Comenius with schools in your area, you may be interested in getting involved in a Comenius network. These networks allow for wider dissemination of findings and products developed within the framework of Comenius.
Opportunities are available to staff working in school education who are not qualified teachers. Some Comenius in-service training activities are available to non-teaching staff and support staff in schools, for example, those working with children of travellers and migrant workers, or with children with special educational needs. Opportunities are also available to counsellors, careers advisers, staff working with pupils at risk of social exclusion, and other categories of educational staff.
If your training institution is involved in a Comenius multilateral project, you may be eligible to undertake a short training placement in another European country as part of your course. Or you can be a Comenius assistant before starting your full-time career.
If you are involved in the delivery of teacher training, or you specialise in school education, you may be interested in developing new learning materials or methods for training teachers with other European partners as part of a Comenius multilateral project. If you have already had extensive experience of Comenius you may be interested in starting or joining a Comenius network.
If you are involved in Adult Education there may be funding opportunities for you and your institution through the Grundtvig programme. In the UK the National Agency responsible for the Grundtvig programme is ECOTEC Research and Consulting Ltd. Find out about the Grundtvig programme.
