We currently have no full-time vacancies. However, we occasionally need part-time/freelance sickness/substitution cover. Applications for full-time or part-time work as teacher of English at the British Council Bogotá.  Please read the following before continuing:

Person Specification and Competencies required

Essential

First degree or equivalent
CELTA or equivalent qualification
At least two years post qualification teaching experience
An interest in teaching both Young Learners and Adults
The legal right to work in Colombia
Classroom management skills which include the ability to plan, control and facilitate effective and appropriate interaction in the classroom
Course and lesson planning skills which include the ability to prepare courses and individual lessons that fulfil course objectives, employ appropriate methodology and meet learners’ needs
Subject knowledge which refers to the ability to analyse and describe language systems (lexis, discourse, grammar and phonology) and language use (through spoken and written text) and the ability to communicate this knowledge effectively and in ways appropriate to the learners
Understanding your learners which refers to the understanding that a teacher demonstrates towards their learners and of the learning process
Learning technologies which refers to effective and appropriate use of different ICT tools in the classroom
Full mastery of English across all four skills to CEFR C2/IELTS band 9
An interest and willingness to be part of a dynamic team which seeks to pursue the wider British Council aims
Working Together – i.e. Shares goals and resources to add more value.  Works towards common goals with others.  Does this be agreeing effective and respectful ways of sharing success.  Generates mutual support, shared benefits and promotes interdependence.

Desirable

A diploma-level TEFL qualification
Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Experience of using IT in the classroom
UCLES man suite and/or IELTS examiner
Experience of the British Council’s (or other) Performance Management system


Physical disability will not normally be a disqualifying factor for a job.

Teaching is on or offsite and takes place between 6:45am – 9:00pm Monday – Friday and from 8:00am to 6:30pm on Saturdays. Most teachers either teach early in the mornings (6:45am – 9:00am) or late in the evenings (5:15pm – 9:00pm).
