ELT Conference 2010 -Challenges for the ELT Syllabus: Developing Competencies for the 21st Century

The association of Universities in Bogotá, the British ELT publishers represented in Colombia, the Centro Colombo Americano, ASOCOPI and the British Council are organising the 2010 version of the NATIONAL ELT CONFERENCE with the theme: Challenges for the ELT Syllabus: Developing Competencies for the 21st Century.

English Language Teaching faces the challenge of contributing to general competence development at all levels of education. The 13th edition of the National ELT Conference aims at gaining insights on the role and challenges of ELT practitioners and educators. The Organising Committee welcomes presentations, papers and research reports dealing with the following topics:

  • The ELT Syllabus Revisited
  • Connections between Syllabus Design and Evaluation
  • The Role of ELT Managers in Curriculum Design (Programme Coordination, English in the School Curriculum, Teacher Recruitment and Development, ETC)
  • The Language Syllabus And The Development Of Communicative Competence
  • Lessons from Cross-Curricular Experiences: The Development of Communicative Competence through other Subject Areas (Sciences, Math, Social Studies, Humanities, and Arts)
  • Lifelong Learning through the ELT Curriculum (the development of general competencies: Scientific, Digital, Mathematical, Social and Civic, Intercultural, etc.)

This topic was chosen in response to the suggestions made by participants on the 2009 Conference.

The Conference will be held in Bogotá, Colombia, from 21 to 23 April 2010 at Universidad de La Salle, Sede Chapinero. This event seeks to be a forum for researchers, teacher educators, academic coordinators, practitioners and decision makers to share a critical and constructive assessment of current research and practice on the teaching of English.

Presentations can be:

  • Plenary sessions (one hour)
  • Workshops (50 minutes)
  • Awareness sessions (50 minutes)
  • Research reports (50 minutes)

The number of speakers for each presentation is limited to two. Only one speaker per presentation is entitled to a courtesy entrance to the Conference.
