Blended CELTA

What is the CELTA?

Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is a qualification that gives teachers all the training they need to be highly successful language teachers and opens doors to exciting teaching opportunities all over the world.

First introduced in 1998, the CELTA is taken by over 10,000 trainee teachers every year and  is accepted by the majority of language schools, and thousands of universities and teaching organisations around the world.

Because CELTA places equal emphasis on both the principles of language teaching and practical teaching, it shows potential employers that a teacher has successfully completed a challenging programme of training, exploring not only the theory of teaching but also gaining valuable experience of teaching real classes . As a result, teachers who have the CELTA are favoured over teachers with the majority of similar qualifications.

Who is it for?

The CELTA is for all those who wish to start an exciting career in teaching English as a foreign language and also for those who have classroom experience and want to obtain a world recognised teaching qualification to formalise their classroom experience.

Why take the blended CELTA?

The blended CELTA offers all the advantages of the traditional CELTA course but also allows you the flexibility to obtain the CELTA certificate without giving up any work or personal commitments. The blended CELTA combines online study with live teaching practice and allows you to study at your own pace and access materials anywhere and anytime. It also allows you much more time to consolidate and reflect on your learning.

How is it different to the face to face CELTA?

The new blended CELTA has all the features which made the face to face course so effective:

  • six hours observed teaching practice at two distinct levels with expert feedback from experienced tutors
  • observations of experienced teachers to give you an insight into what makes effective language lessons
  • personalised feedback on strengths and weaknesses of your teaching by tutors and advice on how to achieve higher grades
  • supervised lesson planning and support throughout the course
  • tutorials on key aspects of teaching including lessons on classroom management, teaching the four skills, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation teaching
  • written assignments which consolidate your learning throughout the course

However, in the blended CELTA you also have the following advantages:

  • tutorials can now be attended from the comfort of your own home
  • you can now access online material anytime you want
  • the portfolio of your work is now online
  • online tutor support and live chat with tutors and other participants is available throughout the course
  • independent and collaborative online tasks are available which you can do in your own time
So what does the course involve?

The course teaches you the principles of both theory and practice of effective language teaching and after the course you will have confidence in both planning and delivering language lessons. You will also have much more confidence in your understanding of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

When and where is the Course?

The course starts on January 14 2014 (12 weeks semi-intensive). The course takes place in Bogotá.
