British Council Colombia
Going Global 2012
International Higher Education

How we work

British Council Colombia works with government policy makers, higher education agencies, university leaders, academics and students to support international higher education countrywide.

We work in cooperation with Colombian educational bodies seeking the improvement of Internationalisation of Higher Education, facilitating national and regional policy dialogues that position Colombian and UK universities, government and private education entities to:

  • Support international research in innovative areas that  promote international alliances between Colombian and UK scholars
  • Promote international dialogue between Colombian universities, technical and vocational schools and UK counterparts
  • Facilitate and promote international academic missions to Colombia and from Colombia to the UK,  encouraging students and faculty mobility
  • Promote training, seminars, publications and forums on internationalisation of higher education in Colombia and the UK
  • Promote internationalisation of universities’ curricula
  • Facilitate and promote foreign language learning in Colombia (Spanish) and the UK (English)

We create opportunities for UK educational bodies to strengthen direct relationship with key Colombian education bodies:

  • Colombian National Ministry of Education (www.mineducacion.gov.co)
  • COLCIENCIAS, Colombia’s Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (www.colciencias.gov.co)
  • ICETEX, Colombian government entity that promotes higher education through educative credits and scholarships (www.icetex.gov.co)
  • SENA, Colombian agency that promotes technical and vocational education (www.sena.gov.co)
  • Colfuturo, a joint public and private sector entity aimed at facilitating the access of Colombian professionals to further education abroad (www.colfuturo.org.co)
