Beautiful Science

Our Beautiful Science project takes a unique approach to the challenge of improving science communication.

We are joining teams from eight countries in South East Europe (SEE) and the UK to bring you an innovative science communication project between 2006 and 2008. Beautiful Science has been developed through the combined efforts of colleagues in Azerbaijan, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, and our Science, Engineering and Technology team in the UK.

Beautiful Science will focus on helping young scientists to develop the skills needed to communicate their work to a wide, non-professional audience, and demonstrating good practice in embedding science in popular culture through public events.

Beautiful Science events include:

FameLab
Are you over 18? Can you make a three-minute presentation on a scientific topic in front of a live audience? If so, you could win a trip to the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK! Find out more about the competition ...
Visualise
Developed by the UK science communication company Science Made Simple, Visualise is a touring science and theatre show that will allow audiences to experience some of the world's most beautiful and emotive science demonstrations. Interactive workshops will follow.
Science debates
A series of debates between teams of researchers defending opposing views on a range of scientific topics, organised in the UK and South East Europe by Dr. Jim Al-Khalili, theoretical nuclear physicist and professor of physics at the University of Surrey.
