Laila comes from the city of Pirenópolis, in the mid-western state of Goiás. Her experience in environmental matters is extensive and unique.
In Brazil she lives in an Ecovillage, which is a community that seeks to live, and teach others how to live, in a sustainable way. At the Ecovillage, all the buildings are environmentally-friendly, they use renewable energy and they have compostable toilets. The people who live there eat organically grown crops and re-use rainwater.
Laila’s pet project is an educational programme called “Habitats”, that seeks to transform conventional state schools in sustainable areas. Laila firmly believes people need to change their way of life and that there lies the path for the solution of the problems mankind is facing today.
