This is another important training program that the British Council and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) are jointly working on following the three-year Police Supervision Training project. (2003-2005)
In August 2006, a senior Chinese police delegation spent three weeks in the UK for training and visits. The delegation was headed by Mr. Wang Yadong, the Deputy Director of the General Office of MPS and consisted of 25 delegates, most of whom are Deputy Heads of the provincial public security departments. It’s unprecedented in terms of scale of the group as well as seniority of the members.
During their stay, the Chinese police officers took part in tailor-made training in University of Leicester, Centrex and Scottish Police College, and also visited London for a series of official meetings with their UK colleagues. The focus of the training falls into four main areas:
- Intelligence-led Policing
- Emergency Planning
- Police Leadership
- Performance Management
The understanding of the Chinese police officers on the UK policing system, particularly on the above-mentioned areas, has been further enhanced. It also provided a good opportunity for the senior police from the two countries to strengthen exchange and communication.
