Chevening Human Rights Scholarships are funded by FCO. We manage this initiative, which was launched by Prime Minister Tony Blair when he visited China in 1998. Since the first group of six scholars who studied in the UK from January to March 1999, ten Chinese scholars have won scholarships to attend three month training courses at the Human Rights Law Centre of University of Nottingham , September to December every year. The course offers a wide range of Human Rights options, including the International Human Rights Law, Human Rights in Practice and English Civil Liberties Law. There have been 46 awards to date.
Professionals from Chinese governmental departments, academics, social organisations and NGOs are all encouraged to apply for Chevening Human Rights Scholarships. Applications should be made through the Foreign Affairs Department of the Ministry of Justice.
