Young Lawyers's Forum in Shanghai
Chinese and UK lawyers establish strong links

2 - 4 August 2002

The Young Lawyers’ Forum was a three-day residential conference, which we organised with the Shanghai Bar Association. The forum provided a platform for young lawyers from China, Hong Kong SAR and UK to exchange ideas and views, to learn from each other, and to network and establish strong links to further their professional development. The theme for the forum was “Issues of Professional Development for the Young Lawyer in Modern Society”.

The lawyers were selected on a competitive basis by the UK Law Society and the Bar Council, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bar Associations. A total of 30 young lawyers were invited to attend the intensive three-day forum, where they compared issues of professional regulation, ethics and professional conduct within the three different jurisdictions.

The Forum was a great success and plans are already underway for another forum later this year.
