A two-year project to strengthen the rights of those 'suspected' of crimes to access criminal defence lawyers brought together 80 of China's leading legal experts with 3 senior experts from the UK. As part of an ongoing effort masterminded by the Criminal Defence Lawyers Institute and the Legislative Affairs Office of the National Peoples Congress the project supports amending existing legislation to improve lawyers rights. Robert Seabrook QC, Bruce Holder QC and Robert Brown (Senior Criminal Lawyer) provided practical case study experience of the rights of Defence lawyers in the UK to represent suspects interests at the pre-trial stage. Interest in the workshop went far beyond the 80 participants with the All China Lawyers Association providing access to a wider audience through an online forum which attracted 5000 lawyers. We wish to acknowledge support for this event from the FCO's Human Rights Project Fund. For further information, please contact us. |
