2003 is the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA in the UK. To celebrate this discovery, together with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, we organised many events around the world including China.

In April 2003, Dr Graeme Jones from the UK helped delighted students at Beijing Yuying School make models of DNA. Students from several senior schools in Beijing also learned about bioscience through assembling DNA kits under the supervision of Dr Jones.

Is it right to clone humans? What sorts of limits should be imposed on medical research companies? Find out what happened when Nobel Prize winner, Sir. John Sulston joined Chinese counterparts in a televised bioethics debate to discuss these important questions. The debate took place in December 2003 and was screened on CCTV Channel 10.
