The Dare to be Digital competition is for talented arts and science students including graduates UK wide and international. Teams of five students take part in the Dare hothouse in Dundee, Scotland. In the hothouse the teams will work for nine to ten weeks to create a prototype game. They will receive a project fee, industry mentoring and immediately at the end of the competition, they will need to demonstrate their game to an audience of thousands at Dare ProtoPlay, in Edinburgh. The three best prototypes as judged by the industry will be nominated for the BAFTA Ones to Watch Award.
Chinese International Teams
In 2010 all teams from around the UK, Ireland and including the international teams will be based in Dundee. Dare are looking to select a team of 4 students from India, Scandinavia and a team of 4 students from China who will be joined by a Scottish National student, growing their team to 5 inline with all the other teams competing. We believe that it will be a beneficial and supportive environment for the international students to have a Scottish National team mate with them. The Scottish National team mate will meet their appointed international team in China for liaision purposes prior to the competition and who will travel back to Dundee with the team in June to start the competition.
Following their arrival in the UK, the teams will be invited on a sightseeing trip of Edinburgh. Aware that many of the students will have never travelled to the UK or Scotland before Dare want to give them a first hand experience of a ‘Taste of Scotland’ and welcome them to their country.
Dare ProtoPlay
In week 9 of the Project all student teams are taken to Edinburgh to showcase their games to the public at Dare ProtoPlay. All the game prototypes are judged by a panel of Industry experts and 3 teams are selected as the winners and automatically nominated for a BAFTA Ones to Watch Award.
Final Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony will take place in Edinburgh when Dare ProtoPlay finishes. The winning teams will be announced and presented with their cash prizes by Industry sponsors.
