INTRODUCTION

Dare to be Digital is a unique digital competition open to students (either undergraduate or postgraduate), studying at Universities and Colleges of Art. It is also a campaign which is well-recognised by interactive entertainment companies in UK as a top game graduate’s provider; as well as a prime opportunity for new-start businesses in this creative industry. It offers the opportunity for teams of artistic and technology students (5 in a team) to develop their digital product concept/ideas (games-any platform) into reality with full support. Dare to be Digital provides students with a microcosm of the real world environment- offering funding, support and training within a ‘games studio’ environment over a 10 week period during the summer recess (June- August). Develop Magazine said ‘this is the closest you can get to commercial game development’

Now in its 10th year, Dare 2009 applicants will need to take up a new challenge - to turn an idea chosen by the public into a creative, popular and technologically exciting game prototype. In 2008, a team of 4 students from Peking University developed their own video game prototype ‘VegeMe’ which was nominated for a BAFTA award.

The winning team of this year was just announced and it is Trouble Maker team from the Peking University. The team will set off to Scotland in early June where they will compete for the final.
