The Lawyer's English Language Coursebook
We are delighted to announce the publication in June 2007 of this definitive guide to learning legal English. ENGLISH FOR LAW COURSES

Some of the exam centres featured on this website (indicated by a blue and white flag) provide specialist courses that teach legal English to EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students. Taking one of these courses can be a valuable method of preparing for the TOLES examinations. Global Legal English does not however endorse specific courses.

Choosing a English for Law course
Whilst the TOLES office is not able to recommend specific courses, you should consider the following points when choosing a course:

  • Is the content of the course up to date and relevant, focusing on Company and Contract law, not Criminal law?
  • How much of the course focuses on legal English rather than general English?
  • Do the teachers have legal qualifications as well as qualifications in teaching English as a foreign language?
TOLES STUDY MATERIALS

There are not many appropriate study materials for legal English written specifically to prepare for the TOLES examinations. To help students and teachers of legal English prepare for the TOLES examinations, Global Legal English have published the following study materials.

Practice Papers for the TOLES Advanced examination (Volume 1)
This book contains five TOLES Advanced examination papers with a detailed answer key. It is one of the first texts available as practice for the TOLES Advanced examination and is an indispensable guide to the language that lawyers need to survive in today's global market.

Practice Papers for the TOLES Advanced examination (Volume 2)
This is the second volume of practice examination papers for TOLES Advanced.
This book contains five more TOLES Advanced papers with a detailed answer key. Volumes 1 and 2 provide valuable preparation material, giving you the opportunity to prepare in full for the Advanced exam, either by using the exams as timed practice, or working through the papers at a slower pace to familiarise yourself with the language tested.

Practice Papers for the TOLES Foundation examination
This bound set of photocopies plus a CD contains three TOLES Foundation examination papers with an answer key. This is ideal practice for the Foundation examination and good preparation material for those wishing to progress to the TOLES Advanced exam.
