Standard Test

The Standard Test is a paper-based test of overall language ability in the workplace. It lasts 110 minutes and contains two sections: Listening, and Reading and Language Knowledge.

The test includes the following tasks:

Listening

  • Understanding short extracts
  • Taking down phone messages
  • Listening for general understanding
  • Understanding extended conversations or talks
  • Reading and Language Knowledge
  • Understanding notices and short extracts
  • Finding information in short texts
  • Understanding a longer text

Filling gaps in a text (vocabulary and grammar)

Correcting errors in a text

The standard tests are distributed by BULATS agents, who provide an in-house service and arrange for the administration and marking of the tests. Tests need to be booked at least 10 working days before the desired test date. Test Report Forms will be delivered within 5 working days after the test.
