In 2002, Qingdao No. 39 School invited students from Frederick Gough School (Lincolnshire, UK) to the celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary. The two schools performed a joint music concert and participated in many joint cultural activities, such as creating Chinese paper cuts.

Asia Field, the biggest British Council arts event in China in 2003, and part of the Think UK campaign, created an impressive impact on China. Schoolchildren were involved in the creation of the clay figures in a village in Guangdong Province and more than 20 schools in Beijing worked together with the artist, Antony Gormley, in the installation process. The exhibition was visited by hundreds of Chinese school children in Beijing, Shanghai, Gaungzhou and Chongqing.
