Chongqing Construction Site Managers Development Project

This aims of this project are to establish an international standard for construction site managers in Chongqing, and bring up the level of construction site management through introducing UK vocational education and qualifications to Chongqing. This project is a collaboration between the following organisations:

Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General Chongqing
Chongqing Construction Commission (CCC)
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
Construction Project Management Committee of China Construction Industry Association (CPMC, China CIA)
Chongqing Construction Industry Association (CCIA)
Chongqing University (CU)

CIOB have so far visited Chongqing four times. UK Consultants have met with government organisations, construction companies and site managers in Chongqing. Two workshops were held to discuss UK NVQ based standards for site managers. The draft standards have been piloted through the first group of site managers in Chongqing and were revised after further piloting and assessments in July 2003.

Previous visits to the UK by Chongqing professionals have included Professor Li Shirong from Chongqing University, who visited the UK in 2001 to experience UK best practice in setting up and implementing vocational standards for site managers. In September 2002, a Chongqing delegation consisting of government officials, university professors and researchers, industry general managers and site managers also visited the UK on a study tour.
