BARCLAYS CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom (the FCO), Barclays Capital, the Investment Banking Division of Barclays Bank PLC (Barclays), and the Ministry of Finance People’s Republic of China (MOF), the Export-Import Bank of China (China EXIM) and China Development Bank (CDB), covering co-operation for a joint scholarship programme entitled the ‘Barclays Chevening Scholarships'.

Under the Programme, China partners (MOF/CDB/China EXIM) will be responsible for nominating the candidates to the Chevening Scheme through the standard application process.  These candidates will then be interviewed and selected by the British Embassy in China or one of the British Consulates-General in accordance with the standard Chevening Scheme selection procedure and process.

A Maxium of three candidates from MOF/CDB/China EXIM will be funded by the Programme.

Barclays Chevening Scholarships will enable suitably qualified students to undertake a one-year Master's Degree for any courses in any universities in the United Kingdom. The course must be of suitable quality and of direct relevance to the needs of the candidate.  Given that the candidates are from China EXIM/CDB/MOF, it is expected that most courses will be in finance, economics, law, or business administration.

During the period of the Programme, Barclays will, at its own discretion, offer a number of summer associate positions to those Scholars who have successfully completed their academic study. Upon completion of the training Programme, the scholars must return to China and work for their employers.
