Why China?

Every year, students from around the world head to China to study or take up internships. The number of UK students who seize the opportunities in China’s major cities is small but growing.

Spending time in China will give you valuable real-life experience of the world’s most dynamic and fastest developing country. Here are just a few of the reasons why it’s a great idea to gain international experience in China:

Boost your employability

China is the world’s most populated country, with almost one-fifth of the world’s population. It’s an economic powerhouse, the world’s biggest exporter and second largest importer, and is increasingly important in the international arena. Global businesses and organisations are keen to engage with China at every level - so you can be sure that your experience in China will be highly valued by employers.

Language and culture

When you study or work in China, you can immerse yourself in the language. Mandarin Chinese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and an official language of the United Nations.

China’s ascendance as a major international power makes it even more important that more UK people understand Chinese language and culture. It’s not as hard as you might think! And it will definitely be a fascinating experience.

A China experience is affordable

You probably know that China is developing rapidly, but you may be surprised to learn that as a student you can expect relatively low cost of living (compared with many European cities) while studying in China - even in the biggest cities. For instance, a ride on the Beijing subway costs just 20p! Eating out can also cater to the smallest of budgets.

Great travel opportunities

China’s total land area is roughly the same size as the USA, and there are amazing opportunities for travel. From extreme mountainous terrain to tropical coastlines, China has an endless choice of travel destinations whether you are backpacking and or fancy something a bit more sophisticated. Travelling is relatively inexpensive and the transport network continues to grow.
