Generation UK is a new three year campaign that aims for over 15,000 UK students to participate in study abroad or internship programmes in China by 2016.

The campaign seeks to actively promote UK outward mobility to China, including the benefits of studying and working abroad. It also seeks to provide the practical support students need, as well as working with governments, academic institutions, industry and commerce in both China and the UK.

The objective is to help create as wide a range of opportunities as possible, to help young people in the UK develop global mindsets and boost their employability.

China’s Minister for Education Yuan Guiren and Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove signed the UK-China Partners in Education (UKCPIE) Action Plan at the sixth UK-China Education Summit in London in October 2011, which set out to forge stronger UK-China links in education, skills training and language teaching.

Generation UK supports Strand 1 of the Action Plan: Building Partnerships and Promoting Mobility; it provides more UK students with the opportunity to learn first-hand about Chinese language, culture and business through its internship programmes and academic scholarships.
