Drama and Dance
We work across all forms of dance and all forms of drama - from contemporary dance and live art to more classical forms, and from live art and physical/visual theatre to classic and text-based drama. We work with our overseas network of arts managers and partners to plan, resource, deliver and evaluate high-impact arts projects involving UK artists. Our aims are to promote new images of the UK, to establish long-term partnerships abroad and to attract young adult audiences.
Integrated Paralympics Dance Project
The delivery of the project focused on the theme of communication.

Overcoat China Tour in November

In 2008, Gecko Theater re-adapted Gogol’s Overcoat in a vivid and humorous way. Overcoat took the stage of Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2009 and was highly praised by audience and critics. This award-winning drama came to China for the first time in June 2010, and the four performances in National Centre for the Performing Arts arouse a lot of applause. This November, British Council is bringing this excellent production back to China again, together with Magique (Beijing). Overcoat will be touring to Beijiing, Xi’an, Wuhan and Shenzhen.

Best of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010

Since 2008, Milky Way Arts & Communications Co., Ltd began to present the Edinburgh Festival highlights so as to bring UK's finest new theatre productions to Chinese audiences. Vibrantly staged, emotionally engaging, experimental yet universally entertaining and accessible – these dramas explore the multi-dimensions of modern society and human sentiment.

This year’s Best of Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010 will present three exciting works from Edinburgh: If That’s All There Is, One Small Step, Home of the Wriggler.

Othello bt TNT Theater

OTHELLO is Shakespeare's most perfect play, a masterpiece of dramatic construction.  OTHELLO is a thriller, a love story, a tragedy and  an exploration of race, prejudice, power, war and human folly.  OTHELLO is written by Shakespeare at the height of his powers, its poetry is finer than HAMLET , its pschology deeper than  MACBETH, its  love story more compelling than ROMEO AND JULIET, it;s heartbreaking tragedy more moving than KING LEAR.  OTHELLO might be the finest play ever written.

In this TNT production, Paul Stebbings directs OTHELLO, Thomas Johnson composes the score - this is the same team that brought HAMLET and KING LEAR successfully to the stage and toured world wide. This |OTHELLO will be marked by clear story telling, gripping action and visual imagery all complimented by a live score sung and played by the performers. We will seek to be original and bold but at the same time true to Shakespeare's original and reflect the style that might have been used at the Globe in the Bard's own time.  The production embarks on a 30 country tour of four continents in May 2010. We hope you can join us for this theatrical feast in China from 15 to 17 October.

Re-Orientations

Date & Time: Oct.5-Oct.17, 2010 (Mon. off) 7:30pm
Venue: Drama Salon (3F, No.288, Anfu Rd., Shanghai)

Pinter Drama Festival

The masterpieces by Harold Pinter, a most influential British playwright who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2005, will be introduced into Chinese and published by Yilin Press at the end of August 2010. Moreover, during the Beijing Fringe Festival in September, Mr. Meng Jinghui would join hands with Yilin Press to hold a special unit “Pinter Drama Festival” in order to show his respect to his idol Pinter. The 2-week Pinter Drama Festival contains 4 plays (12 performances) directed by young Chinese directors of the new generation and 4 readings.

The Will to Build (Revival Version)

This powerful drama skilfully weaves together verbatim transcripts of Theatre du Pif’s interviews with real people who are intimately involved in and affected by our city’s obstinate will to build: property tycoons, construction workers, architects, planners, preservation activists, politicians, feng shui masters, former colonial dignitaries, cage-dwellers…

The Will to Build was premiered at the Hong Kong New Vision Arts Festival 2008, and it is the opening programme for Hong Kong Cultural Week at the 12th China Shanghai International Arts Festival.
