1. China Tour of Fidelio Trio, Northern Ireland The Fidelio Trio perform extremely diverse repertoire throughout Europe, Asia and South Africa and frequently broadcast for BBC Radio 3. Since their South Bank debut they have appeared at FuseLeeds, Reggello Festival (Italy), West Cork Music, Belfast Festival at Queens, Royal Opera House, London, Corsham Festival, Musica Viva (Portugal) and Composer’s Choice Series, National Concert Hall, Dublin. To coincide with Fidelio Trio China tour in June, British Council will deliver a Water Music Workshop targeting music teaching artists, local community workers and school groups in partnership with Dalian Development Area Grand Theatre. AirplayUK Reel 4 Animation Music Video Screening The 4th edition of AirplayUK features another selection of the most creative and entertaining music videos produced in Britain over the past few months. These are for a combination of new artists, up-and-coming bands, and established acts that all have new material released in the UK recently. This edition also includes a director profile, in this case a music video director who has made a significant contribution to music video creativity in the UK over a considerable period. 3 The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra China Tour The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra was founded in August 1982 by Wallace and Lex Galbraith, who are both string instrument tutors in Ayrshire in South West Scotland, with the aim of encouraging and developing Scots Fiddle Music among local young musicians many of whom were, or had been their pupils. They will perform in Beijing Concert Hall on 2 July, Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre on 4 July, Hangzhou Grand Theatre on 7 July and Shenzhen Concert Hall on 9 July before travelling to Hong Kong and then back to Scotland. 4. British cellist/vocalist Ayanna Witter-Johnson co-presents at Nine Gates Jazz Festival with Chinese folk singer Xiao Juan Ayanna Witter-Johnson is a composer, jazz vocalist, cellist and pianist who has developed musically from a diverse background of mixed cultures. Her compositional versatility includes writing for symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles, big bands, string quartets and choirs as well as songs, soundscapes and pieces for solo instruments. 5. The 2009 Shanghai World Music Festival The 2009 Festival will be held at the Oriental Art Centre and the Century Park from 30 April to 5 May as an important part of a series of musical events in celebration of the one year countdown to the grand opening of World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. During the festival, Shrine Synchro System, an electronic world music group from the UK will bring us contemporary electronic music with a folk music element; Netsayi, a Zimbabwean jazz singer and songwriter living in the UK will present a soul journey with the past, present and future of Black music. 6. Mike TV China Tour Hailing from the hamlets of East Hampshire and suburbs of Wolverhampton, MIKE TV have recently been very busy indeed. So far 2008 has seen a name change, a new member, a brand new 13-track album and a positively plethoric attitude towards live performances - all without losing their trademark, harmony-laden punk rock sound. 7. Sound And The City – The Anthology Sound And The City was an innovative sound art project conceived by the British Council and realised across China between 2005-2006. The anthology was launched on 13 October 2007 at Timezone8 book store in Beijing. The book was officially launched in London at the Royal Festival Hall on Monday 21 April 2008.
