International Young Designer Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 Award
Application Procedure

British Council China (The Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy Beijing/Consulate-General Guangzhou) is searching for a talented young Chinese Entrepreneur to represent our country in the International Young Designer Entrepreneur of the Year award programme in the UK along with representatives from nine other  countries.As a representative of China, you will have a chance to be in London for an all-expense-paid 10-day visit and also have a chance to attend the 100% Design exhibition.The programme will provide  all 10 finalists with the opportunity to meet leaders of the design sectors during September 2006.

Design sector definition
For the purpose of this award participants can be drawn from any of the following sectors:

  • Architecture, interiors and environment
  • Graphic design: communication, publishing, branding and multimedia
  • Product design manufacture: furniture, industrial products and craft
  • Interactive and digital media
  • Design promotion: exhibitions, events, festivals and retail

Criteria for applicants

  • Be between 25 and 35 years of age
  • Already work in the design sector (as defined above)
  • Be entrepreneurial and have shown their ability in the promotion of design in their country, in either a commercial context, public context, or both
  • Through their character, drive and abilities demonstrate their potential to be a future leader of the sector in their country
  • Good conversational level of English as each participant is expected to make a presentation in front of a panel of judges.

Selection process in China

  • 30 June 2006 - Deadline for applications submission
  • 3 July 2006 – Shortlist, with 10 candidates selected to be interviewed
  • 3 – 7 July 2006 – Interview, each short listed candidate will be interviewed and asked to make a presentation
  • 14 July 2006 – final winner for China announced

How to apply

All the information and the application form will be available from British Council offices.You can also find more information and download the application form from here.

This award programme is open to all qualified candidates throughout China. We welcome applicants from other cities. However, you will need to arrange your own travel to Beijing or Guangzhou if you are short listed to be interviewed.
