The art of Renoir, contemporary fashion photography and unique antiques all feature in coming London events in 2007.
1. Kate Moss, Sharon Stone and Drew Barrymore are among the subjects in a new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery (Feb. 15-May 28). “Face of Fashion” looks at the work of photographers of magazine fashion shoots and explores the links between fashion and portraiture by examining the work of five contemporary photographers; Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Corinne Day, Steven Klein, Paolo Roversi and Mario Sorrenti. 2. Fashion features again at the Museum of Brands in Notting Hill, in their first temporary exhibition. “All Consuming Fashion – 200 years of graphic styles” (Nov.16-Feb. 28) contains advertisements, magazines, song sheets and post cards showing the diversity of illustrated fashion within their social context. 3. “Renoir Landscapes 1865-1883” (Feb.21-May 20) is a new exhibition at the National Gallery and is the first to examine the development of the artist’s landscape art which played an essential experimental role in his early career. Seventy paintings will be brought together from all over the world including The Harvesters, Landscape at Wargemont and Banana Plantation. 4. Landscapes are examined again at the Michael Hoppen Contemporary gallery in SW3: “John Davies – The British Landscape” (Feb. 22-April 7). John Davies’ black and white photographs, taken between 1979 and 2005, show the complexity of the rural and urban landscapes of industrial and post industrial Britain. 5. The 15th BADA Antiques & Fine Art Fair is to take place at The Duke of York Square off Sloane Square (March 21-27). Paintings, furniture, clocks and jewellery will be among the works from 100 of Britain’s top dealers. This year’s loan exhibition is “300 Years of Collecting: Treasures from The Society of Antiquaries of London”, including unique works never before shown in public.
