Shanghai eArts (CN)/Visiting Arts (UK) - 1m2 • Shanghai - South Railway Station Workshops
It is the final decision that the current “1 square-mile” will be held within the one square mile area in Shanghai South Railway Station. That is decided after taking the colorfulness and variegation of the civil functions, population distribution and behavior pattern of citizens into consideration as well as the planning for the station’s historical, present and future situation.
In this activity, we put our discussion focus on “sound”, and we start from “the art of sound”. In concrete operations, we will adopt “location recording”. In this way, we hope that in the course of collection, classification, analysis, organization and annotation, all the possibilities in ecology, culture and aesthetics in solid space will be realized and finally understood.
Although this art project is related to ecology, it is not precisely the “ecology” in science. It pays closer attention to people’s living condition within than people’s living environment without. How to achieve this goal by sound is also where the interest of the artists in this project lies in. The project is mainly carried out in the form of workshop.
There are twelve periods in all, lasting three months. The core members consist of the citizens living working and studying within one square mile around Shanghai South Railway Station. Meanwhile, anyone who is interested in the art of sound, sound recording, ecology, architecture, or urbanism is also welcomed.
After the project, the achievement of it will be displayed in photos, audio, website, books and disk by our core members.
