BRITPOP COMES TO CHINA

Come and see history in the making as Britpop comes to China, as The Stone Roses once proclaimed - “This is the one”!

Featuring a very special guest - legendary bass player from The Stone Roses and Primal Scream – Mani who will perform an exclusive DJ set. The Stone Roses and Primal Scream are two of the most influential and adored of British bands of all time. Mani’s DJ sets are Rock’n’Roll/Indie classics encompassing all the Madchester anthems that you would come to expect from one of the men that started the whole scene.

This unique event will bring together the best of live Rock’n’Roll music from the UK and China. Puressence have been touted as Manchester’s finest guitar band – not bad for a city that gave birth to bands such as Oasis and The Smiths. Fresh from a sell out 10 date UK and Greece tour, Puressence will play China for the first time.

Puressence have been one of the UK’s most treasured guitar bands since they formed in the Manchester town of Failsworth in 1991. Initially discovered at the Tony Wilson endorsed In the City music festival, Puressence’s mix of epic anthems and emotional intensity, not to mention singer Jimmy Mudriczki sensational voice, resulted in a record company scramble for their signature. Island Records, home of U2 and Bob Marley, won the race and signed the band amid much excitement.

Puressence have released four full-length albums between 1996 and 2007, all to mass critical acclaim, gaining an obsessive, devoted following not just in the UK, but even as far away as Greece, where the band are incredibly popular.

Last year saw the release of Sharpen the Knives, a collection of Puressence’s finest songs that underlined how few bands have matched Puressence for longevity and consistent brilliance. They celebrated the release of the record with their biggest ever headline show at the Manchester Apollo, a gig that has already gone down in Manchester music folklore.

Now with their own record label, Caserta Red Records, Puressence are about to build on their most successful year yet. With two unprecedented shows in China and a new album ready to release in autumn, 2010 will see Puressence at the peak of their powers.

Mani Biog

Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield is, quite simply, a music legend. As bass player with legendary Manchester baggy icons The Stones Roses and now with Scottish rock/dance act Primal Scream, Mani has been responsible for some of the most pioneering, original and downright brilliant indie music of the last 25 years.

After forming The Stone Roses in 1984, Mani played his part in a musical and cultural revolution. The bands’ eponymous 1989 debut was a landmark release, not only because of its fantastic songs but because it captured the mood of an entire nation, and is rightly considered a modern day classic. The Stones Roses then went on to perform one of the most legendary gigs the UK has seen, a 30,000 outdoor concert at Spike Island that to this day remains one of the most talked about gigs ever.

After The Stone Roses split in 1996, Mani joined Primal Scream, who went onto even further success thanks to Mani’s distinctive basslines. Charming and charismatic, Mani is also a successful DJ, and has DJ’d all over the world, from America to Australia. He now has a weekly slot at Manchester’s newly opened Factory club, where people from all over the UK travel for the chance to see a bona fide legend in action.
