Titled “Getting Better All the Time”, the event showcases original songs about the hopes and dreams of young people, all of which were collectively written by these students in a series of workshops in the past 2 years. Taking place on 24 September 2010 at 5pm at Life Hub @ Jinqiao in Pudong, the free show is one of the cultural events supported by the UK Pavilion of the 2010 Shanghai EXPO.

Peter Moser is a music composer, performer, teacher and producer. Winner of the Arts Council England ART 06 award for work in Music Education, Peter has for the past 18 years been the artistic director of More Music, one of the longest running and most highly regarded community music and education organisations in the UK and is used by Arts Council England as a model of good practice.

As a music educator and community music expert, Peter firmly believes that every individual, whether or not he has received proper musical training, has the ability to express himself through creative music making. In the past 2 years, Peter has shared his experience with counterparts in Shanghai by conducting many fun-filled and highly interactive training workshops and masterclasses organized by Fringe Shanghai. Over 2,000 people in 8 schools and community centers spread out over 7 districts in Shanghai took part in these activities.

“Getting Better All the Time” is a finale concert presenting the results of the series of community music workshops conducted in May 2010, in which over 300 local and international school students participated. Among the original songs written by the students were Getting Better All the Time, a happy song about young people’s dreams of a bright future: “I want to play music, Form a Band, Give a concert; I want to play chess; I want...” The Chinese song Bien De Geng Hao is a musical dialogue between young children and old folks commenting on how life has been changing for the better over the years.

The project is a cultural program supported by the UK Pavilion of Shanghai EXPO 2010. It is organized by More Music and Fringe Shanghai, and receives support from the Cultural and Education Section of British Consulate-General as well as Life Hub @ Jinqiao in Pudong.
