Following the great success of the first Annual EU Film Festival in China, held in Beijing in December 2008, we are pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual EU Film Festival in China will take place from 5 November to 4 December 2009. This year the film festival is expanded and will take place in two cities: Beijing and Chengdu. Each film will be screened in the original language with English and Chinese subtitles.
The film festival, which is financed by the Delegation of the European Commission to China and supported by the Swedish Presidency, invites all 27 EU Member States to showcase one recent, popular and successful film, and such a wide and diverse selection will enable the Chinese general public to discover the new faces of European cinema. Each movie will be shown twice in Beijing and once in Chengdu, with screenings at the Centre Culturel Français (French Cultural Centre), the Instituto Cervantes (Cervantes Institute), the Istituto Italiano di Cultura (the Italian Institute of Culture), the Polish Embassy, the Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art, the German Embassy School and the Broadway Moma Cinemathèque in Beijing; the screenings in Chengdu will take place at the Stellar Yingdu Cinema.

In present day England, a colossal storm hits theNorth Atlantic Ocean just outside of the UK and moves toward the Scottish mainland, laying waste to the town of Wick. Some predict that the crisis will die off but not Professor Leonard Morrison, who worked arduously on the Thames River barrier. Morrison foresees that the weather system will be moving across the Thames barrier, gaining strength from the year's unusually high tide and inundate London with a wall of water. In desperation, Leonard contacts daughter-in-law Sam, Director of Operations for the barrier, and warns her of the impending destruction. As the water hits - just as predicted - a city-wide state of emergency is declared and extreme measures must be taken to keep the pending disaster from spiralling out of control and claiming untold numbers of lives...
