Extraordinary blend of bold physicality, beautiful images and evocative music

The 13th China Shanghai International Festival & Modern Drama Valley jointly present The Overcoat by Gecko Theatre World Tour last 3 performances in Shanghai!

In 2009, 'The Overcoat' met its great success at Edinburgh International Festival of Music and Drama, and later visited China twice in 2010 and performed at the National Centre for the Performing Arts and Beijing International Theater and Dance Festival, winning the compliments and applause from Chinese theatrical circles.

Plot
The Overcoat is an extraordinary blend of bold physicality, beautiful images and evocative music based on Gogol’s world famous story: In a futile government department, Akakki falls in love with the beautiful Natalia. His feelings for her are not returned; this drives him to be the best and win the ultimate office prize – The Overcoat - revered by all as a symbol of success. But how far is Akakki willing to go? And at what cost?

About Gecko
Gecko - an award winning and internationally acclaimed company – was formed in 2001 by Amit Lahav and Al Nedjari, fuelled by a shared response to theatre that for years had left us feeling dulled and uninspired. Unlike so much of the theatre the audience were used to experiencing, they wanted their work to serve as a launch pad for the audiences’ imaginations, to awaken their senses and to fill them with energy and vitality. With an expanding ensemble of international performers and makers, Gecko creates work through collaboration, experimentation and play.
