Bill Aitchison is a theatre and performance artist whose highly individual work is known for being as entertaining as it is thought provoking. He has presented his shows in galleries, theatres and festivals in Europe, Asia, America and The Middle East. He holds a practice-based PhD from Goldsmiths College, and has published critical articles and reviews and made several works for radio. He was last working in China in 2009 when he was the artist in residence at Theatre In Motion Beijing and he then returned to present the results of this residency at the 10th Open Performance Art Festival in 798 Art Zone Beijing.
Bill Aitchison will be returning to China in 2011 to create a new performance in Xiamen at the Chinese European Art Centre (CEAC). He will be an artist in residence at CEAC between January and March and during these three months will create a new show that will be presented first in Xiamen then in Shanghai in April before returning to the UK for more performances.
This new work, titled ‘The Customer Is Always Wrong’ will use the confusing state of being a foreigner to creatively plot the intricacies of national and cultural identities. The China side of The Customer Is Always Wrong is being supported by British Council China, CEAC and CANART.
