PI-UKCHINA NETWORK

PI-UKCHINA NETWORK

Welcome to PI-UKCHINA NETWORK!

“PI-UKChina”(Built Environment and Engineering) is a collaborative venture of 17 leading UK Professional Institutions (abbreviation: PI) with interests in China. The group represents in excess of half a million construction, design and engineering professionals committed to developments in China. Initially the collaboration focuses on Shanghai with the intention of rolling it out to the whole of China in due course.

All members are represented on a steering group in the UK and this group is mirrored in Shanghai by nominated representatives of the above PIs and an eminent local chair. The governments of the UK and China set up a joint UK-China Construction Working Group in September 2005. The first meeting was held in Beijing on March 31 2006 and PI-UKChina was represented in these talks by the Chair.

The purpose of PI-UKChina is to:

  • provide easy access to information on UK built environment and engineering professional qualifications
  • develop opportunities for collaboration between Chinese and UK professionals within similar disciplines
  • exchange knowledge and information
  • support members of UK professional institutions within China.

PI-UKChina plans to work with Chinese universities, associations and industries to enhance professional relationships and collaboration, provide access to UK professional qualifications, and engage in knowledge and information exchange.

PI-UKChina is currently working with the British Council in Shanghai to identify the educational needs, pathways and opportunities for young professionals in built environment and engineering in China and make a comparison to those available in the UK. The aim is to create a joint China-UK pathway linking UK professional training and membership with China's qualifications and professional accreditation systems. It is hoped the project will create a model that can be adapted by other sectors and will also promote PI-UKChina throughout China.

PI-UKChina is the first venture of this kind anywhere in the world: it recognises China as the key focus for built environment, design, construction and engineering activity internationally.

PI-UKCHINA NETWORK has been set up jointly by PI-UKCHINA and the British Council. It is a professional network and communication platform for professionals in the built environment and engineering fields. When you register as a member (free of charge), you will:
