Get it louder exhibition hit Shanghai

The second Get it Louder exhibition opened in Shanghai Daning Life Hub on 21st July 2007, featuring the working of young creative people from China and abroad. We supported and co-curated the contribution of fifteen UK artists.

Get it Louder 2007 has two main characteristics - for up and coming artists and designers, it is an annual party to “shout their attitudes out”; as for the audience, it is a wonderland filled with the most avant-garde and newest exhibits.

With the venue provided, exhibits by designers were displayed throughout Central Square, streets, and alfresco café. Even the entire open-air storey of the parking lot was taken over by the event! Nearly 1,000,000 people came to see the exhibition in spite of such hot summer days.

UK as the largest overseas participators
Through our early involvement, we helped to ensure that the UK has more artists in the show than any other overseas country, and that the UK elements are highlighted and signposted throughout the exhibition.

Design UK Creative Forum

During the 15-day exhibition, 6 UK designers attended this creative forum, introducing their workshop and expressing their thoughts on design trends nowadays. There was at least 2000 attendance at forum, including chief curator of Get it Louder, Ning Ou. They both shared their perceptions on design industry in both China and UK.

Assa Ashuach Design workshop

On the 23rd of July, Assa Ashuach set up a workshop on “UK home design trend” and nearly 80 audiences coming from all over the country for his show. During the workshop, audiences have fully witnessed his passion as an artist and brainstorm with our local artists.

Great collaboration with Education Marketing

Same as Guangzhou, joint planning with education marketing also leads to an onsite mini education exhibition for all venues in Shanghai, featuring the work of Chinese students at UK universities, and a specially built mini site on our www.educationuk.cn website.

Huge work for the Shanghai and regional teams
Same as Guangzhou, as a regional project co-coordinated from Shanghai, most of us have gone well beyond the call of duty for this project. Particular thanks to Nina Due and Will Sorrell from British Council London as our curators, but many others were and will be involved as the project, working in a new way with ambitious and often inexperienced partners, often when we were not at full capacity.

Many thanks to those involved in the Shanghai Leg for their passion and diligence. We are also of great appreciation for our 38 volunteers and their preserving hard work, without which, Get it louder Shanghai can never be such a success.

Last but not least, we attribute our achievements to the utility of great collaboration between British Council colleague and local staff. Since Get it louder is on its Beijing Tour, we are here sending our best regards to this exhibition and people working on it.
