Climate Cool – By Design

As one of the highlights of Climate Cool, the British Council Shanghai is running a series of “Climate Cool – By Design” theme activities (17–25 November), aiming to showcase the impact of sustainable design and [re]design on individual life, raise awareness of climate change and encourage participants to take individual action to reduce the impact of climate change. A cool climate is our common concern; are you cool enough? If so, join us!

By Design Forum @ 1933

Topic: Designers from the UK and China will discuss top tips for “Climate Cool – By Design” and introduce their own acclaimed work, acknowledged for its ecological/ [re]design awareness.

Jason Allcorn: One half of the dynamic duo behind design studio WEmake, who seek to “make better stuff and make stuff better.”

Sarah Johnson: The founding director of [re]design, and co-founding director of WEmake, who believes that design holds enormous potential to enable social and environmental change.

Participants: Junior and senior design students and young designers

Time: 1500-1800, Tuesday 20 November

Venue: Building 1 @ 1933 (10 Sha Jing Road, Shanghai)


By Design Student Workshop @ HiShanghai

Topic: UK designer Jason Allcorn will share ideas and tools for “Climate Cool – By Design” with participants, leading a discussion on how to design for ecological/sustainable concerns, which will be followed by interactive group design exercises.

Participants: Freshmen and sophomore design students

Time: 1700-2000, Friday 23 November

Venue: HiShanghai Glass Gallery
           (600 Fei Hong Road, Yang Pu District, Shanghai)


Design UK exhibition @ HiShanghai

• Held in close collaboration with UK Art and Design institutes, the exhibition gives students the chance to have their creative work displayed and appreciated

• Participants can take part in UK Design Forum and Student Workshop activities

• Attendees can also share interesting topics and make new friends

Time: 17-25 November (1200-1900)

Venue: HiShanghai Glass Gallery
           (600 Fei Hong Road, Yang Pu District, Shanghai)
