Andre Bazin said that Ciarlo was a myth. To all the audience, Ciarlo’s creator Chaplin was the real myth: tight coat, over-sized trousers and shoes, a bowler hat, and a "toothbrush moustache". This is the classic impression that he gave us and left in our memories.
For this year’s Broadway Cinematheque Moma Open-Air Cinema Season, we have selected five of Charlie Chaplin’s most representative films: City Lights, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, A King in New York, The Gold Rush. All will be screened from original prints. The screenings will be held in the small square in front of the main cinema building. For the opening, the audience will get the chance to enjoy Chaplin’s classic City Lights alongside a perfect musical accompaniment provided by Chinese top Jazz band ”Xia Jia Trio”.
Join us as we enjoy the long-forgotten Open-Air cinema, re-imagined with new concepts and meanings.
