2. 1m2 Shanghai - South Railway Station Workshops The final decision on the current ‘1 square-mile’ venue is the one square mile area of the Shanghai South Railway Station. Considered in the decision was the colourfulness and variety of civic functions, population distribution and social patterns of citizens as well as the station’s historical significance. 1. Serie Architects: Working in Series From 7 September to 31 October 2009, architecture SH will feature the ‘Serie Architects: Working in Series’ Exhibition. From Icon Magazine’s 20 Essential Young Architects 2008, the gallery will present Christopher CM Lee’s seven projects led by Lee and Kapil Gupta - emerging young architects with international offices in London, Mumbai and Beijing. Nurturing Enterprising Creativity for a Career in Fashion and Textiles Lecture The British Council has invited Anne Smith, Dean of the School of Fashion and Textiles, Central Saint Martins, to speak on the current fashion trends in the UK and discuss how to creatively nurture business opportunities. Anne Smith has had ten years experience in designing and showing fashion and textiles collections of women’s, men’s and children’s wear in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo. 1. Turner from the Tate Collection The first major exhibition of the works of J.M.W. Turner closed at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) in Beijing on 28 June with 112 major works on loan from the Tate’s Turner Bequest. J.M.W Turner (1775–1851) is considered to be one of the greatest painters Britain has ever produced. He was the leading British artist of his era, an artist who raised the status of landscape painting to an unprecedented level. Please click here to read more.
2. China: Through the Lens of John Thomson (1868-1872) The first exhibition devoted to the China images of Scottish photographer John Thomson shows the great diversity of photographs that Thomson took in China between 1868 and 1872. What distinguishes the work was his desire to present a faithful account of China and its people – human aspects of life in China through an extensive record of everyday street scenes – rarely captured by other photographers of that era. 1. 2nd Annual European Union Film Festival in China Following the great success of the first Annual EU Film Festival in China, held in Beijing in December 2008, we are pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual EU Film Festival in China will take place from 5 November to 4 December 2009. This year the film festival is expanding and will take place in two cities: Beijing and Chengdu. The film festival, which is financed by the Delegation of the European Commission to China and supported by the Swedish Presidency, invites all 27 EU Member States to showcase one recent, popular and successful film, and such a wide and diverse selection will enable the Chinese general public to discover the new faces of European cinema. Each movie will be shown twice in Beijing and once in Chengdu. Each film will be screened in the original language with English and Chinese subtitles. Please click here to read more.

3. Best of British Animation Awards Vol 7 Screening British Council proudly presents the best of the British Animation Awards Vol 7. The British Animation Awards (BAA) covers all aspects of the UK animation scene, from student work to commercials, children's entertainment, short and experimental art films, music videos, new technologies, script-writing and craftsmanship. China-UK Creative Entrepreneur Network The UK was among the first to identify the potential and proceed to nurture creative talent in order to develop creative industries. To share the UK experience and to support local creative industries, the British Council launched the China-UK Creative Entrepreneur Network as an interactive platform for young creative entrepreneurs in China.
