Beijing office: Head of Relationships & Insights

The British Council is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic candidate with excellent proficiency in English (C2) and strong people/performance management skills to fill the post of Head of Relationships & Insights based in Beijing. This is a pay band 7 post on an indefinite basis.

The key duties of this post include:
Key account management (KAM)

  • To lead the identification and prioritisation of British Council China’s key relationships/accounts.
  • To co-ordinate the development and management of key relationships/accounts across China.
  • To manage and develop relationships with a portfolio of key accounts.

Partnerships

  • To define the types of partnership which will be possible within the operating context and most effective in helping us to achieve our strategic objectives in the immediate and medium term
  • To identify and quantify opportunities for partnership working in China. Success will be measured by the number of existing partnerships extended and new partnerships developed and the value added to our programmes.

Collaborative Relationship Management

  • To ensure that programme teams have the advice and appropriate support to plan and deliver digital campaigns through e-mail marketing, mobile phone marketing and other digital channels

Digital analytics

  • To generate and present China digital assets (including CRM, website and social media) performance insights for programme teams and global digital teams.  

Market Analysis and Insights

  • To support British Council China to become a market-led organisation which uses market, competitor and stakeholder/customer information and insights to plan, deliver and evaluate strategies, programmes and projects.
  • To assist in the clear definition of markets and audiences and to facilitate the use of information and insights about markets (including digital environments), partners, competitors and audiences to inform the design and content of programmes and projects

Team management

  • To provide leadership and management to the Relationships & Insight team.

Salary and benefits:

The above position includes a gross salary of RMB 21,065 per month before deductions, 22 days annual leave per year, and medical insurance.

Beijing or Shanghai office: Head of Digital Change, China (2 years contract)

The British Council is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic candidate with excellent proficiency in English (C2) and strong people/performance management skills to fill the post of Head of Digital Change, China based in Beijing or Shanghai. This is a pay band 8 post on 2 years fixed-term contract.

The core responsibilities are:

  • Works at market level to facilitate the successful implementation and use of new digital tools and products.  Initially this will include a new CMS and features from the ESUP – including managing the sign off on the front end design.  
  • Works with the China Operations Team and the Global / Regional Digital team to establish and evolve appropriate and effective digital strategies; facilitates and guides implementation of these strategies.
  • Provides direction as to development of content on all platforms; provides guidance as to levels of quality, compliance and accessibility.  
  • Supports up-skilling and training roll-outs within China
  • Drawing on user insight, takes editorial responsibility and is accountable for quality and accessibility standards for China content on all digital platforms and local/regional partners’ platforms.
  • Uses expert knowledge to ensure the regional digital presence supports market priorities.
  • Drives transformational change; influencing dispersed teams in the matrix structure across China.
  • Provides expert leadership to all involved in digital working in the market, facilitating communication, sharing of best practice, exploiting synergies and building team confidence.  

Other Responsibilities and main duties

  • Works to establish and enhance content sharing workflows and culture, and to amplify the best local content for use as appropriate across BC platforms.  Ensures appropriate content lifecycle management. Monitors SEO practices. Contributes to gathering and responding to metrics.  Provides guidance as to best practice on BC platforms, including social networking platforms, in conjunction with Digital team leads.
  • Is responsible for planning, in conjunction with the home page and genre page teams, content flow from the regions and its exploitation across all British Council global digital channels for maximum market impact.     
  • Advises on potential of appropriate digital tools in consultation with Digital technical leads.  
  • Builds positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders within the market and beyond, and with relevant external partners.  Works closely with Marketing colleagues to achieve China business objectives.
  • Exploits synergies and shares best practice with other BC Heads of Digital across the world. Communicates well with central Digital team and contributes to overall success of BC’s digital presence.

Relationships (key stakeholders)

  • Director China; geographical and business leads in China; regional SBU leads; regional digital leads; in-country digital staff; regional and sometimes global BC partners.

Other important features or requirements of the job (e.g. travel, working hours)

  • Travel around China is required, and occasionally to locations in E Asia and to the UK to attend Heads of Digital group meetings.

This is a pay band 8 post on 2 years fixed-term contract.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:

China Strategy Team
•To provide proactive advice to the China Strategy Team regarding marketing & communications strategy and on marketing, communications and relationship aspects of British Council China strategy. The post sits on the China Strategy Team.

China Operations Team
•To provide proactive advice to the China Operations Team regarding efficient and effective delivery of marketing & communications across British Council China. The post sits on the China Operations Team.

Marketing & communications strategies
•To lead on the development of corporate marketing & communications strategies covering such issues as, for example, segmentation and targeting, brand, media/channels (including digital and social networks) and evaluation.

Market analysis and insight
•To provide leadership for British Council China to become a market-led organisation which uses market, competitor and stakeholder/customer information and insights to plan, target, deliver and evaluate strategies, programmes and projects.

To develop internal communications and employee engagement strategy

Advice to Strategic Business Units/programmes/projects

To be responsible for British Council brand in China including its consistent use and promotion (including, for example, brand framework, values, behaviours, processes, visual identity standards, messaging and tone of voice, etc).

Relationships and Key Account Management
•To ensure that a strategic and co-ordinated approach is taken across China in planning, developing and managing relationships and partnerships in the areas of government, education, business, media, arts and any other sector relevant to the British Council’s agenda globally, in China and in East Asia.

Team management
•To lead, manage and develop the Marketing, Communications & Relationships team. Recruitment (when necessary), training, and performance review carried out to corporate standards.

Marketing & Communications Network
•To be an active member of the global marketing & communications network.

Support for Strategic Business Units/programmes/projects
•To advise and support Strategic Business Units and Area Directorates regarding raising the profile of their work, for example: a) working with them to identify and place relevant and compelling stories in internal channels; and b) writing engaging pieces suitable for the relevant audiences and channels.

“Corporate” internal communications
•To drive and co-ordinate “corporate” (i.e. British Council China) communications within the global British Council network, including co-ordinating and delivering to expected quality the annual report, the China Brief, corporate presentations etc
•To develop and maintain constructive relationships with key internal media stakeholders (e.g. corporate communications in the UK)
•Act as chief liaison with Corporate Internal Comms Online Manager to ensure right mix of content on Regional Intranet sites.
•Keep a close eye on CD and Senior Managers SharePoint sites to flag and promote important comms directives in China.
•Maintain proactive contact with Head Corporate Internal Communications to propose stories coming out of the region for due representation in the corporate comms channels.
•To manage the supply of any internal communications collateral which might be required (e.g. newsletters, leaflets, DVDs, presentations) and to facilitate the efficient and effective implementation of internal communications events.

Evaluation
•To source/devise and implement methodologies for evaluating, measuring and improving internal communications.

Financial management
•Budgeting, controlling and reporting according to British Council standards.

The IELTS Centre mainland China is recruiting examiners.

We are looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our team of IELTS examiners in mainland China.

You will need:

An undergraduate degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be an equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

A TEFL/TESOL qualification from a recognised institution (at minimum certificate level) or EFL / ESOL related studies completed as part of an undergraduate / post graduate award course from a recognised institution (minimum certificate level equivalent) or A degree in Education (if supported by an undergraduate degree which includes studies focused on English language at point 1 above) .

A minimum of three years full-time relevant teaching experience (or equivalent part time) is required*. If an applicant’s EFL / ESOL qualification is at certificate level (or equivalent), one of the three years full-time teaching experience must be post EFL / ESOL certificate qualification. If the EFL / ESOL qualification is at Diploma level or higher, teaching experience post EFL / ESOL qualification is not required.

The required professional attributes and interpersonal skills.

*Note: ‘Full-time teaching’ is classified as a minimum of 14 hours of face-to-face teaching per week
