Strange changes for 2007
It’s that time again to vow you will give up drinking, smoking, eating cake. These are the resolutions often made and often broken. But could we be a bit more creative? What more specific resolutions could we think of - statements of one or more things we will do in 2007?

We put some alternative resolutions ideas to our colleagues and friends to see what they will do. Would they get on the first train that comes into the station or sell their TV and not buy a new one? Or maybe design their own tattoo or go for a meal that’s scarily expensive?

10 things to do
‘A bit like my 10 things to do before I'm 50 list, which I started but haven't quite finished yet….’ says Hilary, 35, Leeds. Her list so far includes:
Travel on a sleeper train (did this last year)
Stay in an igloo (might go skiing in Finland)
See the Aurora (ditto)
Visit John O' Groats (have already been to Lands End)
Swim with dolphins
Fly in a hot air balloon’

Help yourself and others
‘Buy a Big Issue off the same vendor every week.’ James, 28, Manchester

‘Set up an eBay account and go through each wardrobe and sell everything that hasn't been worn in the last year.’ Ali, 21 from Chester’

Peter, 25, London wants to ‘get to know my neighbour, visit a different museum each month, buy and use a bicycle, learn a foreign language and rescue a pet.’ I’m sure he meant to rescue the pet from a dogs home, rather than in a super hero adventure way.

Fly away
The strangest resolution we received was from Matt 30, from Macclesfield who as well as Giving up full time work and doing some martial arts, wants to ‘Learn to use my arms to fly’. If it works I’ve made him promise to tell me how.

Dive in
‘I have resolved to learn how to dive again (as in, diving into water!).  I could dive through hoops, and from any height as a kid, but sort of lost my nerve in my teens and haven't tried since, so that is going to be one of my alternative resolutions.’ Antoinette, 27, London

What will you be doing differently in 2007?
